The Indian Law Institute W.B in association with State LegalServices Authority & All Bengal Women’s Union organised the 1st ever LegalServices Clinic in 2000. ChiefJustice Mathur , Justice Alamas Kabir & Justice Kalyan Jyoti Sengupta are present . Aim of this clinic was to render legal help to people in need and also spread awareness of legal aid services.

The national unit was founded in 1956 with the objective of promoting and conducting legal education and research.
